It comes before a special meeting of the council tonight (5 August) following public disorder occurring during racially-motivated rioting in the city at the weekend.
Alliance Lord Mayor of Belfast Micky Murray also plans to work with those impacted, as well as other parties, to discuss support for affected businesses and measures that can be taken to improve good relations.
Cllr Maghie has said: “The violence, intimidation, and acts of criminal damage we witnessed in Belfast over the weekend are incredibly distressing, and my thoughts are with all the people and businesses who’ve been affected.
“This is not who we are. We are an overwhelmingly welcoming place; a proud city of sanctuary that is enriched by its diversity and the contributions of those who’ve chosen to make Belfast their home.
“In times like this, strong political leadership is crucial. There is absolutely no justification for what we saw on our streets this weekend, and political leaders must rise to the occasion, united in commitment to meaningful dialogue and decisive action. I’m proud that my party has been leading the way on this at all levels of government, from council, right up to the Executive table.
“Now, more than ever, we must stand shoulder-to-shoulder in solidarity with our minority ethnic communities, denouncing all forms of racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and intimidation, and work to ensure everyone feels safe, respected, and valued in our society.”
