Alongside teachers and pupils from Our Lady and St Patrick’s College Knock, the charity lead a hands on training session with MLAs which demonstrated how Classroom RevivR helps young people to understand the difference between a cardiac arrest and a heart attack, respond to an unconscious person and make an emergency call, use a defibrillator and perform CPR safely and confidently.

Speaking after the event, Mr Mathison said: "I was delighted to have the opportunity to facilitate this brilliant session, which was incredibly informative for members of the Education Committee. It is welcome to see CPR and AED awareness on the curriculum and the Classoon RevivR tool demonstrates how engaging and accessible this can be for children and young people.

"Our Lady and St Patrick’s College have really led the way with this new technology and I commend them on the work they have done in this area. During the showcase, we were able to hear from BHF NI community volunteer John Deery, who shared his powerful survival story of cardiac arrest during the Belfast marathon.

"The British Heart Foundation also highlighted the importance of ensuring that all businesses and organisations with defibrillators make sure their machine is appropriately registered, guaranteeing that medical services can provide the proper support required if ever needed.

"The charity is also calling on any local businesses or organisations that could facilitate a defibrillator on their premises to get in touch. I would encourage anyone who is interested to reach out to the charity to learn more about just how easy it is to potentially save a life through the installation of a defibrillator."
