Alliance successfully proposed extra funding to allow the expansion, spearheaded by Cllr Michael Long, after making it a priority in the rates setting process last year.
This means over 6000 more homes will be able to avail of this service, and the collections should be due to begin by March 2025, with final confirmation later this autumn.
Cllr Maghie has said: “After a number of years of campaigning, and thanks to the hard work of Cllr Long in particular, we are delighted that virtually everyone in Lisnasharragh, as well as more homes in Ormiston, will be able to recycle glass at home thanks to this expansion.
“This expansion means seeing another one of our ‘100 Goals for Belfast City Council’ achieved, and is a great opportunity for residents and the planet, that will help reduce both waste and rates bills with less waste being sent to landfill.
“I’m particularly pleased to see this important service expanded into Ormiston, which has one of the lowest densities of ‘bring back banks’ in Belfast. Especially in the Gilnahirk area, where residents lost access to one of these banks a number of years ago, reversing a stark service inequality for residents.
“Alongside my Alliance colleagues, we will continue to push for the full expansion of kerb side glass recycling right across the city."
