Alliance has grown its Newry, Mourne and Down District Council team after announcing Councillor Cadogan Enright has joined the party.
The Downpatrick Councillor joins the local Alliance team, made up of Councillor Andrew McMurray, Councillor David Lee-Surginor and recently-elected South Down MLA Patrick Brown. The new Alliance Councillor said it was evidence of the party’s growing strength in the area and he was looking forward to tackling a number of issues as an Alliance representative.
“It is a privilege and honour to join the local Alliance team. People have been expressing their dissatisfaction with the DUP, Sinn Féin and SDLP, with a growing realisation Alliance is the best vehicle for the positive and inclusive society the majority of people want to see,” said Councillor Enright.
“I have worked closely with my Alliance counterparts over the years and was impressed with the party’s commitment to a number of issues in the Downpatrick area, particularly around the environment as illustrated through Alliance’s Green New Deal document.
“As a growing force throughout the local area, Alliance wants to deliver on the issues which matter to people. With our new offices in Warrenpoint and Downpatrick showcasing growth, it’s an exciting time for the party locally. I look forward to working with the team to ensure everyone across Newry, Mourne and Down has a voice.”
Councillor Andrew McMurray, Alliance Group Leader on Newry, Mourne and Down Council, said Councillor Enright would be a huge asset for the team.
“Cadogan brings with him almost two decades of hard work and experience as a local councillor, and will be a huge asset to our local government team.
“I look forward to working with him to deliver for local people right across Newry, Mourne and Down.”
Patrick Brown MLA said he was delighted to welcome Councillor Enright.
“Cadogan has worked for people right across the constituency and is involved with dozens of community groups in his role. I know on a personal level he is a tireless public representative and I look forward to working closely with him to deliver our plans to restore the county town of Downpatrick and campaign on vital environmental issues among many other matters.”
