The Alliance Party’s sports spokesperson was speaking after it was revealed the current contractor was unable to continue with the project.
He added: “While this is yet another disappointing set back, it is clear there is still a route to appoint a replacement quickly and we must continue to work with Ulster GAA in delivering this project.
“While it is a disappointing setback, it is not necessarily an unexpected one, with rising costs across many sectors being the main factor at play. To deliver the stadium will now require additional financial input from the UK and Irish Governments – both of which must now move quickly to announce a timescale for funding and construction.
“Alliance continues to fully support the delivery of Casement Park and will continue to work with all involved so Northern Ireland doesn’t miss the opportunity of hosting Euro 2028 in Belfast.”
