Cllr Webb is a dedicated public servant who has served as a Councillor on the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council since 1997. Over the years, he has held various positions, including Mayor and Deputy Mayor, and since May 2023, he has been an Office Bearer with NILGA.
Speaking at the AGM, Cllr Webb said: As a dedicated public servant, it is an honour to be elected as President of NILGA. This year, I am committed to adopting a collaborative approach to ensure the sustainability of local councils and the crucial services they provide.
“It’s essential we strengthen the relationship between central and local government so they can collaborate more effectively, and facilitate a sustainable, long-term path for Northern Ireland.
“Local councils play a vital role in providing for communities by addressing important issues such as economic development, community services, and climate action. For meaningful change to occur in Northern Ireland, local government must be recognised as a key consultee and policy partner in decision-making. During my year as President, I will ensure NILGA will continue to advocate for the further devolution of powers to local government.
“By leveraging creativity and community insight, we can drive sustainable progress if local government is treated as an equal sphere of governance.”
