Speaking following the announcement, the Upper Bann MLA said: "It is a welcome step that a derogation has been agreed on the EU's new mercury regulations, given the very specific impact for Northern Ireland's already strained dentistry services.
"Alliance has been making the case for a derogation for many months, and I am grateful for the work of DAERA Minister Andrew Muir alongside UK Government and Department of Health colleagues in securing this outcome for patients and practitioners.
"Today's announcement is further evidence that through constructive and solutions-focused engagement with our European partners, we can deliver positive outcomes for the people of Northern Ireland."
