It will now proceed to Committee Stage to be scrutinised further.

Mr Tennyson has said: “So-called conversion practices are cruel and archaic, and have no place in our society. I’m immensely proud to see this bill progress to the next stage.

“This is balanced legislation with safeguarding at its heart, protecting LGBT+ people from harm whilst also upholding freedom of speech and freedom of religion. It was disappointing to see some within the debate attempt to deliberately skew and misrepresent multiple different aspects of the bill according to their own agenda.

“No one should face coercion, abuse or harm because of who they are or who they love. I’m looking forward to working with others to see this bill advance further and eventually become law.”
