Tennyson condemns incident at home of Naomi and Michael Long

Alliance Deputy Leader Eóin Tennyson has said that an incident last night (8 October) in which a mob of people, some wearing masks and livestreaming on social media, gathered outside the home of colleagues Naomi and Michael Long was “totally reprehensible.”

Mr Tennyson has said: “Naomi and Michael are two of our most hard-working and accessible politicians, who have never shied away from political debate and robust engagement. Choosing to show up at their home, en masse and after dark, is nothing more than a sinister attempt at intimidation. It’s totally reprehensible and should be roundly condemned by all.

“This has not happened in a vacuum. In recent weeks and months we’ve seen a toxic atmosphere whipped up relentlessly by others, both in the chamber and outside it, and on social media, targeting Naomi specifically. This is the result of that kind of rhetoric, and I hope some individuals can now reflect on the real-world impact their words have.

“My solidarity, as well as that of the party as a whole, is with Naomi and Michael at this time, and I’m grateful to the PSNI for dealing with the situation swiftly and professionally, and for their continued work as things develop.”
