Your Candidate in Lagan Valley is: Sorcha Eastwood
Life-long resident of Lagan Valley.
Brexit Adviser for the Alliance Party, represented Northern Ireland in meetings with UK and Irish governments, the European Commission and other stakeholders.
Background in business, having worked in Human Resources and Management across both public and private sectors.
Councillor on Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council.
Passionate about people, supporting many initiatives from organisations such as Mencap, local mental health charities, Women’s Aid and Age NI.
Brexit will impact negatively on us all - it is vital that Lagan Valley has an MP who will go to Westminster and advocate for people, not one who will advocate for a hard Brexit that jeopardises jobs and livelihoods. Even if you voted to leave, no one voted to be poorer. Since the outset of Brexit, Alliance has prioritised people - protecting jobs and making sure we have more opportunities, not less. As your MP, I will be a strong voice standing up for people in Lagan Valley and highlighting there is no such thing as a good Brexit.
I know health is a priority for you and it’s a priority for me, whether it is about looking after older relatives and friends or making sure we have a mental health strategy for Northern Ireland, our health service needs radical reform and investment. We also need to make sure that the NHS remains free at the point of delivery. Your health is your wealth and as your MP, I will work tirelessly to improve and protect our NHS to make life better for people in Lagan Valley.
Climate change is one of the biggest issues we face and I will be a strong voice for making sure that we act now to stop the climate emergency. What sort of a world will we be leaving for future generations if we don’t act now to support bio-diversity, green energy and sustainability. As your MP, I would be a strong voice for Lagan Valley in speaking up for urgent action to tackle climate change.
