The South Belfast MLA said: “I am pleased yesterday’s vote on the Windsor Framework passed with a simple majority. Whilst the Protocol and Windsor Framework are not perfect and issues remain to be resolved, the current post-Brexit trading arrangements provide Northern Ireland access to both the UK and European markets, putting us in a unique position to attract investment and maximise our economic potential.
“No version of Brexit will be more beneficial for Northern Ireland than remaining within the European Union. However, Alliance is focused on finding solutions to the consequences of Brexit, and eight years on from the original Brexit vote, we need to move beyond old debates and deliver more opportunities for everyone in Northern Ireland.
“However, the repeated collapse of our political institutions and the constant chaos instigated by others have prevented us from fully capitalising on these opportunities, and it remains concerning that our government remains as stable as the day before its last collapse. Reform of our institutions is critical to grasp these opportunities and to continue to provide stability and leadership everyone deserves.
“It’s time for political parties to provide the certainty and clarity that businesses need, and come together, alongside businesses and civic society, to exploit the opportunities presented by our unique trading arrangements. We may have different views on Brexit but we all share a common commitment to making Northern Ireland the very best place to live, work and invest.
“My Alliance colleagues and I will continue to call for institutional reform to secure political stability and ensure the people of Northern Ireland are heard. With yesterday’s vote behind us, it’s time to shine a spotlight on the immense opportunities Northern Ireland offers to investors and businesses worldwide and I am optimistic about its future.”
