The South Belfast MLA said: “This Review provides an excellent example of exactly the type of work in terms of both reform and improvement which we need to deliver a truly universal and responsive healthcare system.
“The Review provides a clear picture of the current situation – the so-called ‘burning platform’ – and the means of setting standards, meeting workforce challenges and delivering appropriate pathways and infrastructure.
“What we can see here is a demonstration of the severe difficulties within the system, particularly around workforce planning, but also of the significant opportunities for general surgery and the healthcare system as a whole presented by the Bengoa reforms and of the action needed to make those opportunities a reality.”
