Mr Nelson was speaking after the discovery of the suspicious object earlier today. Residents have now been permitted to return following the security alert, which police say was caused by an elaborate hoax.
“I condemn those behind this hoax device in the strongest possible terms. Residents, businesses and commuters have all experienced severe disruption to their lives,” said Councillor Nelson.
“Local people do not want this disruption to their lives, and I would appeal for anyone with information to contact the PSNI as soon as possible, so those responsible can be caught.”
