Taking over from her former colleague Alderman Noel Williams, Gerardine said she was looking forward to carrying on the positive leadership displayed by her predecessor, along with continuing to champion openness, transparency and fairness on the Council.
Speaking after she took up the chair, she added: “It is the honour of my life to be the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim and I can't wait to get out and about, meeting everyone across our Borough and advocating for what matters most to them.
“Having been involved in local politics for many years, I see first-hand, day-in and day-out, the impressive work being carried out by our Council staff and as Mayor I will continue to support, empower and challenge our wider team as continue to tackle the challenges that lie ahead.
“Our area is renowned for its manufacturing excellence. We are also home to some of Northern Ireland's hospitality and tourism providers, and are working hard to build on all our local assets.
“Voters across Mid and East Antrim recently came out and backed Alliance in large numbers, ensuring our Councillors will continue working hard for everyone in the area. I will continue that delivery for all ratepayers in my new role as Mayor.”
