The North Antrim MLA said: "This weekend's election at the ard fheis in Wexford marks a significant milestone for the Irish language community. I warmly congratulate Mr. Mac Giolla Bhéin on his appointment as president after his long-standing commitment to Conradh na Gaeilge since 2005.
“At a time when the Irish language is experiencing growing popularity worldwide, supported by historic new legislation both north and south, strong leadership is essential. The challenges facing the Irish language community, including the current funding crisis and issues within the Irish Medium Education sector, require dedicated advocacy and innovative solutions.
“While I note with concern the emergency motion directing legal proceedings against the Executive regarding the Irish language strategy, I believe constructive dialogue remains the most effective path forward.
“Alliance remains committed to the implementation of language legislation and to working with all interested parties to support our diverse linguistic heritage.
“I look forward to engaging with Mr. Mac Giolla Bhéin as a member of the Communities Committee in his new role and I hope we can work together to promote and protect the Irish language for future generations.”
