Moving to carbon neutral is vital says Armstrong

Kellie Armstrong

Kellie Armstrong MLA, Alliance Communities spokesperson, has welcomed the plan to replace all mobile library service vans with vehicles that use alternative, more environmentally sustainable fuel.

Provision of public services has to be reviewed across all government to ensure we will meet our zero carbon targets for a cleaner and greener environment for all of us. Small steps and changes will all add together to reduce harmful emissions and to protect our planet.

Kellie said: “In line with the objectives contained in the Alliance Green New Deal I will continue to push Department’s to move to carbon neutral or zero carbon options when delivering services. By creating the need for alternative fuel vehicles, we can create jobs and develop technology that will enable a better and more sustainable future.

“As Communities spokesperson I have asked the NI Housing Executive to provide evidence of how they are changing to become more environmentally sustainable. This includes improving housing to be more energy efficient and ensuring all suppliers including maintenance work is making the change to alternatives to fossil fuels.

“There is much to do and I am up for the challenge. I committed to delivering a more environmentally friendly and sustainable economy and environment when I was first elected. Since then my colleagues and I have continued our work to reduce harmful emissions while improving access to new employment opportunities and cleaner ways of living. This is our chance to change.”
