Some houses were evacuated following the discovery, but residents have since been able to return home this morning (13 May) after the device was successfully defused by ammunition technical officers.
“This demonstrates an absolutely sickening disregard for human life and the safety of residents on behalf of whoever was responsible, and their actions must be robustly condemned,” said Cllr Moore.
“These thugs speak for nobody, and our community deserves so much better than this kind of disruption and mindlessly violent, threatening behaviour. This was a residential area, and whilst I’m thankful nobody was harmed, it could have so easily led to much more tragic circumstances.
“I’m grateful for the swift, effective action taken by the PSNI in dealing with this, and I would urge anybody with any potentially relevant information that could help identify those responsible to contact the police directly, or report it anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800555111.”
