Three people were taken to hospital following the attacks, with Mr Newland tragically passing away as a result of his injuries.
Cllr Mairs has said: “The brutality we’ve seen displayed here in these attacks is nothing short of appalling.
“For someone so young to have had his life taken from him in such a senseless way is unspeakably tragic, and the local community will undoubtedly feel this loss for a long time to come.
“I want to extend my sympathies and condolences to Blake’s family, as well as to the other victims and their loved ones. I have no doubt that, despite the shock many may feel, that the people of Limavady will rally around them at such an unimaginably difficult time.
“There’s absolutely no place for such violence in our community. I would urge anyone that has any information that may be helpful to police in their efforts to bring those responsible to justice to please get in touch with them as soon as possible, or report it anonymously via Crimestoppers.”
