She was speaking after Belfast City Council voted in favour of an Alliance proposal to accept the BBC as a core user of Belfast Stories. This partnership will secure £10 million aimed at developing an advanced film and TV studio space as part of the project.

Cllr Maghie stated: “I am delighted that our proposal to secure funding for Belfast Stories’ enhanced studio space was backed by Council today, and I welcome the SDLP’s U-turn in their position. This project is a significant opportunity and is a massive win for Belfast's creative sector.

“The enhanced media space will be funded by the BBC and is designed to include a TV studio that will be available for use by the public and the wider creative sector.

“At a time when our arts and cultural sector is facing considerable challenges, this studio will be an invaluable asset for producing film and TV projects that showcase Northern Ireland's creative industries.

“Unlike Sinn Féin and the Green Party, who have sought to block the additional external funding for this project, Alliance has consistently advocated for increased investment and support for our arts and media sector.”
