Alliance Lisnasharragh Councillor Michael Long has welcomed the planned delivery of green roofs for bus stop shelters across East Belfast.

Following a request to Translink, green roofs were installed at stops on the Shankill Road at the end of last year, with installations now also planned for stops on Castlereagh Road, Cregagh Road, and the Holywood Road in the coming year.
Cllr Long has said: “One area of delivery Alliance is focused on is mitigating the impact of climate change and doing everything we can to achieve our net zero targets, all whilst improving the general overall environment for all Belfast ratepayers.
“I am delighted that my suggestion to Translink and subsequent application to the Department for Infrastructure for these green bus stop roofs, based on the successful implementation of similar schemes in places like Utrecht in the Netherlands, are now progressing to delivery.
“These special bus shelters capture particulates, store rainwater, provide cooling when it's hot and promote urban biodiversity, as well as being beneficial for natural wildlife like bees and butterflies.
“They also serve as a great talking point, will inevitably help encourage people to think about the small changes they can make to improve our environment, and I’m looking forward to seeing them pop up in Lisnasharragh, and hopefully further across the city in the future.”
