It comes after Alliance DAERA Minister Andrew Muir MLA announced the launch in the Assembly on Monday (11 November).
The South Antrim MLA said: “Achieving a fair transition is essential in all sectors, especially for agriculture. As the largest economic sector in Northern Ireland, it also accounts for the highest carbon emissions, and the establishment of a Just Transition Commission is a vital step forward in enabling the sector to improve its economic resilience and competitiveness.
“The Climate Change Act, which was passed by the Northern Ireland Assembly in 2022, requires the formation of a Just Transition Commission. Under the Act, this body is responsible for ensuring that the transition to a low-carbon society and economy is fair and inclusive, leaving no one behind.
“This consultation and the perspectives that’ll be collected from it are key in terms of informing the department on the commission's establishment, as well as relaying public views on the key duties and responsibilities.
“I look forward to the outcomes of the consultation and will continue advocating for the fulfilment of our climate change commitments, and the achievement of net zero in Northern Ireland.
“I would also encourage anyone with an interest in this topic to complete the consultation.”
