The Lagan Valley MLA said: “Manufacturing is a cornerstone of our economy, but unlike many of our neighbours, we still don’t have a dedicated strategy. That has to change if we are serious about creating jobs, driving innovation and achieving regional balance.
“It is essential that any strategy is backed by an action plan that’s focused on delivery, investment in advanced manufacturing, and new models of skills development.
“Northern Ireland is uniquely placed with dual market access to both the UK and EU. That gives us an unrivalled opportunity to attract foreign direct investment, boost exports and position ourselves as a leader in advanced manufacturing.
“However, we require leadership and a joined-up plan to secure skills, growth and investment for the future. Alliance is calling for the creation of a northern version of SkillNet Ireland, which will link business and industry with Education and colleges, helping manufacturers build the talent pipeline they need to thrive and creating opportunities for people. Alongside a sharper focus from Invest NI on supporting indigenous businesses, this would provide the roadmap required for growth.
“With the right strategy and delivery plan, we can turn our incredible talent and vast potential into lasting prosperity for communities across every part of Northern Ireland.”
