The MLA for North Belfast was speaking after the Minister gave a speech outlining the current problems, yet failed to include any follow up plans on how to fix things.

Nuala said: “Alliance is prepared to support the Minister in making difficult decisions, but the Minister needs to recognise that tough decisions do now lie ahead, and he cannot ignore the responsibility he faces.

“Our health service is in crisis and reform is now long overdue. It was overdue the first time the Minister held the portfolio, but now urgent action is needed to implement Bengoa.

“The Minister cannot shy away from the hard decisions he must lead on, but must instead show real leadership to deliver a transformative vision of a fit for purpose health and social care service delivering a sustainable model that benefits everyone.

“I look forward to the Minister bringing forward constructive proposals to the Assembly chamber to allow vital reforms to take place.”
