In the early hours of Monday morning (14 April), police were called to a scene in Banbridge following a report of a suspicious object on Lenaderg Road. A viable pipe bomb-type device was found and has now been removed and taken away for further examination.

Cllr Ferguson said: “Those behind the planting of this device show no regard to human life, and their actions must be robustly condemned.

“The device found could have caused significant damage to the area and posed a serious threat to life, and I am thankful this incident did not result in any injuries.

“The actions of those responsible were clearly intended to instil fear and cause disruption, and they do not reflect the community as a whole, which takes no part in such heinous behaviour.

“I am grateful for the swift and effective action by the PSNI in dealing with this incident. The police are appealing for information, and I would urge anyone with any information to come forward and contact them on 101, quoting reference number 48 14/04/25.”
