Ards and North Down Council Connie Egan

Alliance North Down Councillor Connie Egan has said she is shocked after a man was stabbed in the abdomen while running in Bangor.

The man was attacked around 8pm on Saturday (October 30) in the Stricklands Glen area. Another man emerged from the forest and struck the victim on the head, before trying to grab his phone. When the man resisted, he was stabbed.

The attacker ran off towards the beach, with the victim being taken to hospital for treatment.

“This is an alarming incident which has left the entire local community shocked,” said Councillor Egan.

“My first thoughts are with the victim. This must have been terrifying for him and I hope he makes a full and quick recovery.

“Stricklands Glen is a hugely popular area for walkers and runners right across Bangor. It is horrifying this attack took place somewhere so busy and which sees people of all ages frequent.

“I urge anyone with information to pass it to the police immediately, so a repeat incident can be prevented and the perpetrator apprehended.”
