A man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Ms Egan has said: “To hear of yet another young woman in Northern Ireland having her life tragically taken from her is absolutely devastating. My thoughts and sympathies are with her family and loved ones at what will be an unthinkably difficult time.
“Violence against women and girls remains an insidious blight on our society. In order to truly tackle this kind of violence, we must look upstream and recognise the behaviour that often precedes it. Everyone has a role to play in challenging the misogynistic aspects of our culture that lead to gender-based harm.
"I would urge anyone who may have any information that could be relevant to the police in their investigation of this heartbreaking incident to please get in touch with them as soon as possible.”
