Ms Egan – the Party’s violence against women and girls spokesperson - said the move was short-sighted, adding it could have a potentially dangerous impact on those needing urgent help in the future.
“This is extremely disappointing news and will have a real impact on those currently seeking support from Women’s Aid locally, and those who will need the service in years to come,” she said.
“It is a completely illogical move, that is totally contrary to the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy, which the Executive Office is currently consulting on.
“It also signifies another group of vulnerable people the DUP is prepared to sacrifice as its ongoing Stormont boycott continues. The question now remains how many cruel budget cuts will they stand over before recognising the people of Northern Ireland need an Executive working for them.”
