The South Belfast MLA stated: “I am delighted that a pilot delivery project has been demonstrated to be successful and that now women anywhere in Northern Ireland will have access to free contraception even if they cannot make it to a participating pharmacy.
“The delivery service, which does not even require the recipient to be home at the time of delivery, will broaden both access and privacy, meaning that so many more will be able to avail of vital healthcare services regardless of any perceived stigmas, including those from vulnerable groups and those who live rurally.
“This will only increase uptake of safe sexual and reproductive healthcare and is a hugely welcome step. It also demonstrates the role and impact of innovation within the sector which can now be expanded to other areas of the health service.”
