The South Belfast MLA stated: "This appointment will be welcomed by victims and survivors, who have worked so bravely to pursue this Inquiry.

"The appointment of Rachel Langdale KC is a good one, as it will mean the Inquiry is chaired by someone with appropriate sensitivity and experience.

"What is important now is that the Inquiry is able to commence and proceed without any further delay. Victims and survivors have already experienced too many delays.

"Nevertheless, the appointment of a Chair Designate under robust legislation is unquestionably a significant step forward, and to be warmly welcomed."
