Bradshaw demands clarity on Language Commissioner appointments

Alliance Executive Office Spokesperson Paula Bradshaw has demanded clarity on the appointments of Commissioners under the Identity & Language Act after it was revealed that the publicised appointees have still not received confirmation despite having handed in their notice to their current employers.

The South Belfast MLA stated: “The appointments process under the legislation has already taken far too long. Commissioners should have been in post long ago."

“Now we hear that the Commissioners announced publicly weeks ago have still not received confirmation of their appointments, despite having handed in their notice to their current employers.

“This looks like the First and deputy First Minister are presiding over yet another appointments farce, and so they must set the record straight urgently. These are positions to which people should have been appointed in good faith straight after the restoration of the institutions 18 months ago.

“The First Minister and deputy First Minister must provide immediate clarity on these appointments, not least for the sake of the nominees themselves."
