Bradshaw condemns anti-social behaviour at Broadway roundabout

Alliance South Belfast MLA Paula Bradshaw has condemned the anti-social and violent behaviour at Broadway roundabout, after it was reported that a young person was hit on the head by a brick last night (3 April).

Ms Bradshaw said: "I am so sorry to hear about a young person being hit on the head with a brick last night at Broadway roundabout, and that they went through this traumatic experience. I am glad to hear that their injuries don’t appear to be life threatening, but this certainly is a wake up call as the outcomes could have been much more devastating.

“It is not acceptable that there are some people who are deliberately setting out to stir-up tensions and trouble in the vicinity of Broadway roundabout.

"I wrote to the Chief Constable one year ago asking for CCTV cameras to be installed at Broadway roundabout, following last year's disturbances, and am still awaiting a response. I know this is something that local residents and groups have also requested.

"It is not fair on the young people living in the neighbourhoods on both sides of the roundabout. They are being drawn in through on-going provocation and there is a duty on the PSNI and other agencies to ensure their safety.

"Interface tension and anti-social incidents are not new in this area, and it is long past time that a permanent deterrent, through the installation and operation of CCTV cameras, is put in place."
