He was speaking after the party backed the RSPB Local Government manifesto, which looks at issues relating to planning, biodiversity and nature and climate.
“I am delighted to say Alliance candidates across Northern Ireland have endorsed the RSPB manifesto and will enthusiastically pursue its aims if returned as Councillors after May 18,” said South Antrim MLA Mr Blair.
“Alliance Councillors are and will continue to be environmental champions. We fully understand the combined role local Councils can play in environmental protection, nature restoration and ensuring public bodies meet the legal requirements of the Climate Change Act.
“Every one of us has a role to play in giving leadership at every level of government to help protect our natural environment, habitat and native species. Alliance representatives will continue to work with the RSPB and other environmental agencies to ensure government, at all levels, is providing the necessary lead and resource. That’s yet another reason we need a restored Assembly and Executive immediately.”
