Kellie Armstrong MLA was speaking after police began an investigation into a petrol bomb which was thrown into the Islamic Centre in Newtownards in the early hours of this morning, Saturday 10th August.
She said: "There is no place in our community for the hate, xenophobia, racism or islamophobia we have seen on the streets over recent weeks and days and our Muslim community here in Newtownards should be free to worship without fear or intimidation."
“I wholeheartedly condemn all instances of violence and attempts at intimidation. Let it be clear that these cowardly individuals represent nobody other than themselves and their actions stand to achieve nothing other than to intimidate and instill fear into our Muslim community.
“I'd urge anyone with any relevant information about this attack to come forward and assist in bringing those responsible to justice. Please get in touch with the PSNI or report anonymously via Crimestoppers."
