The agreement last night (25 November) follows a motion which Cllr Lavery presented to fellow councillors in November.

Cllr Lavery said: “I and my Alliance colleagues welcome support for our motion which will see the future publication of elected members’ registers of interest on ABC Council’s website.

“As a public body, the council must continually take steps to ensure it meets the highest standards of openness and transparency for the residents whom we all serve.

“This is reflected in a recent report by the Local Government Commissioner for Standards, in which a key recommendation makes reference to the ‘publication annually of a combined Elected Member Conflict of Interest Register’.

“Eight Councils in Northern Ireland have already publish elected members' register of interest information on their websites in various formats, and it is entirely appropriate that ABC Council can now join this group.”
