Kellie Armstrong MLA, Nuala McAllister MLA and Danny Donnelly MLA met the organisation in Cliftondene Park in North Belfast to discuss the benefits of retrofitting, which seeks to deliver zero carbon targets while saving people money on their heating bills.
“I’d like to thank the Housing Executive for this visit and the work they are doing to achieve environmental targets,” said Ms Armstrong.
“With so much depressing news and the cost of living crisis continuing, I welcome some positive actions to deliver a healthier and more sustainable housing product for tenants across Northern Ireland.”
“I am delighted this scheme in North Belfast has shown how planning and foresight can deliver effective efficiency savings for my constituents,” added Ms McAllister.
“I am grateful to Carol and Fiona, two local tenants who shared their experiences of having the work completed and the improvements to their lives as a result of this investment. Alliance has called for the retrofitting of all social housing in our Green New Deal document, so it was fantastic to see it have such tangible benefits for people.
“Speaking with the Housing Executive officers today confirms the targets for retrofitting of homes in Belfast is on target,” said Mr Donnelly.
“More families will benefit from warmer, more efficient homes while our emission and carbon reduction targets are being delivered. We have asked for evidence of how the energy rating of these properties have improved and what the energy cost comparison is between the homes that have been completed and those yet to be started.
“We have also asked for an update on the roll out of the scheme across the rest of Northern Ireland.”
