Alliance calls for alternative parking site to save Bangor green space

Alliance Councillor Chris McCracken has written to Bangor Marine and Ards & North Down Borough Council, urging them to identify an alternative site for seafront parking to save a local green space.

Alliance's call comes as work progresses on Bangor’s £14m waterfront gardens, with proposals suggesting a green space near the Marina could be replaced by parking.

Alliance Councillor Chris McCracken said: “After years of setbacks, Alliance welcomes the progress finally being made on waterfront gardens, which will bring essential revitalisation to our city. Accessible parking will be important, particularly for families visiting the new play park, but it shouldn't come at the cost of losing one of our much-loved green spaces.

“Having listened to the concerns of residents, I've written to both Bangor Marine and the Council to ask that alternative options urgently be explored. With harbour operations returning to Council control on 1 April, there is a clear opportunity to make better use of existing, underutilised harbour parking instead."
