Sinister poster campaign not welcomed, says Tennyson

Alliance Councillor Eoin Tennyson has said he is extremely disappointed a continued poster campaign focused on the Northern Ireland protocol has taken a sinister turn.

Eoin was speaking after posters of masked men appeared in the Banbridge area yesterday, a move he says will do little to calm tensions in the area.

He added: “The Northern Ireland protocol is a direct consequence of Brexit, which has been clear since the 2016 referendum would only bring division and barriers.

“So whilst I understand the concerns arising from the current situation Northern Ireland faces, these types of posters and other intimidatory actions will not be tolerated and must be condemned by all.

“Those responsible further no political aim, but their actions only seek to harass and harm the very communities they claim to want to help. People in Banbridge deserve better than the overt threat of violence. This behaviour is abhorrent and deeply worrying at this time.

“We have raised this issue with police and would appeal to anyone with information to come forward as soon as possible. To those responsible I would appeal for them to stop and think about what they are doing to our area.”
