Your Candidate in North Down is: Stephen Farry
Stephen is Deputy Leader of Alliance. He has represented North Down since 1993, as Councillor, serving as Mayor, and currently as MLA.
He was Minister for Employment and Learning between 2011-2016, reforming universities and colleges, while promoting Northern Ireland abroad and creating investment across the community.
One of Northern Ireland’s leading voices in fighting Brexit, Stephen has been at the forefront advocating for a People’s Vote and to remain within the EU.
Stephen has been one of the loudest voices fighting for you to stop Brexit. He has listened to the local business community and other stakeholders, campaigned for a People’s Vote and promoted a special deal to protect our economy. In meetings with UK Prime Ministers and Government, Michel Barnier and the EU, and many others, he has been standing up for Northern Ireland.
Promoting NI Economy
As Minister for Employment and Learning, Stephen was key in improving skill levels through reforms to universities and colleges, plus promoting new apprenticeships. He has represented Northern Ireland on numerous trade missions and helped bring new investment and jobs. Having facilitated thousands of new jobs and opportunities, locally he also delivered the new SPACE building at SERC.
Priorities in Westminster
If elected, Stephen will prioritise funding for Northern Ireland’s health sector and other public services, ensure the UK is playing its full part in combating climate change, and promote international development, plus champion human rights and equality.
