Alliance Councillor Michael Long has said that the special meeting of Belfast City Council held to discuss bilingual signs has shown parties can work together to develop agreed solutions.
Councillor Long said: “Following the meeting held yesterday with leaders of the other parties, I was pleased to support the motion from Sinn Féin. These discussions have been positive for our approach to the use of languages on Council buildings and the consultation to be undertaken will then give the public the opportunity to give their views.
“I welcome that we are moving from a segregated future to a shared future, where all our citizens can enjoy the richness that language diversity can bring. I have previously demonstrated my support for the Irish language and will continue to work to make it available to all.”
