Alliance MLA Nuala McAllister has welcomed the terms of reference being published for an independent review into the Jonathan Creswell case by the Justice Minister.

Creswell was charged with the murder of Katie Simpson and killed himself last year at the beginning of his trial. The review will be headed up by domestic homicide review chair Jan Melia. It is expected to last six months.

“I welcome today’s announcement, which follows the Minister stating she was open to learning from the process with an urgent and in-depth review of potential failures in the lead up to Katie Simpson's murder,” said Ms McAllister.

“My thoughts today are with Katie's family and loved ones. Having been denied justice during the trial, I hope this news can bring them another step closer to some form of justice for Katie.

“I have been highlighting the serious failings from numerous organisations in relation to Jonathan Creswell for a number of years now and I am glad that this review will look at all the organisations involved. I am confident Jan Melia as Chair of this independent review will be able to uncover these failings so lessons can be learned and these mistakes are not made in the future.

“I will continue to use my position to seek clarity and accountability for any failings on behalf of Katie Simpson, and all victims of violence against women and girls."
