Alliance Leader Naomi Long MEP has welcomed news Harland and Wolff has been saved from closure after being bought over by energy firm Infrastrata.
The company has said it will retain the 79 workers still employed at Harland and Wolff, while hoping to increase the workforce by several hundred over the next five years.
“This has the potential, if successful, to secure the jobs of local workers which is welcome news,” said Mrs Long.
“It's a tribute to the commitment and dedication of the workers, who didn’t give up hope of saving a Northern Ireland institution, and we were pleased to support them, alongside other parties and trade unions.
“Harland and Wolff is an iconic yard, and the supply chain stretches through Northern Ireland. The challenge now shifts to securing suitable contracts to ensure there is a steady stream of work to sustain it in the long-term.”
