How to become a Council Election Candidate - Information Session

As part of our talent identification process for the Council Elections in May 2023, we are holding some information sessions for party members who have considered becoming Councillors. This information session will cover all the basics of the role and give you an opportunity to ask any burning questions you might have. We are determined to run a candidate in every DEA in Northern Ireland - therefore, there will be lots of opportunities to get involved.

As a party, we are committed to diversity and we particularly want to encourage candidates of all ages, abilities, gender identities, races, religions and socioeconomic backgrounds, from right across Northern Ireland. Even if you’ve never considered becoming a political representative, you’re welcome to come along and see if it’s for you!

This session will cover:

  • The day to day working life of a Councillor (including Council business, case work, work / life balance)
  • The legal requirements to be a Councillor
  • Alliance's candidate selection process
  • Our expectations regarding campaigning and party involvement

I'm delighted to say that some of our recently elected councillors from 2019 will be joining us to give their first hand experience of the job and to pass on their advice.

As part of Alliance's commitment to youth representation, we are running a specific information session for Alliance Youth members on Wednesday 1st December. If you are a member of Alliance Youth you can sign up here
