Failure to appoint Commissioners reinforces need for action on endless TEO delay, says Bradshaw

Alliance Executive Office spokesperson Paula Bradshaw has expressed frustration at the ongoing failure of the First and deputy First Ministers to appoint Language and Identity Commissioners as required by legislation, and emphasised that this failure reinforces the need to end cross-community vetoes and unnecessary delay within the Executive Office.

The South Belfast MLA has said: "I share the immense frustration felt by many campaigners at the ongoing failure to appoint three Commissioners in line with the requirements of the Identity and Language Act 2022.
"We will shortly have seen both Burns Night and Seachtain na Gaeilge pass for another year without any real evidence that these appointments are imminent. This failure speaks to the ongoing dysfunction within the First and deputy First Minister's department, where endless delay is the norm.
"These are just three of a significant number of appointments the First Minister and deputy First Minister have failed to move forward on now with over a year in office. This demonstrates how the ongoing presence of vetoes acts as a deterrent to efficiency and blocks progress in the Executive.
"They are making Alliance's case for reform of the institutions clear and indisputable."
