The Local Change Fund aims to support community networks and provide opportunities for grassroots organisations to help tackle violence, harm and abuse against women and girls. The first step will see £2 million shared across all councils to enable them to support action in their local areas.
The North Down MLA said: “I am pleased to welcome the launch of the Local Change Fund by the Executive Office to help local communities deliver life-altering preventative activity and services to tackle violence against women and girls.
“This funding will be administrated through councils, recognising that local groups and local people hold vital expertise and influence with those in their communities to make a difference.
“However, despite these strengths, we must avoid a siloed and fractured approach. Whilst new funding avenues are appreciated, it will make the most difference when coordinated across various areas and relevant agencies to target effectively and ensure that everyone has access to high-quality provisions.
“I look forward to speaking to community groups in my own constituency of North Down to learn of their experiences with local authorities on delivering impactful services.”
