The Irish League of Credit Unions (ILCU) voiced its frustration, stating: “The ILCU is deeply disappointed that Northern Ireland appears to have no representation in the development of the UK-wide financial inclusion strategy. Given the unique challenges and opportunities faced within Northern Ireland’s financial landscape, it is crucial that the lived perspective of Northern Ireland is included to ensure a truly inclusive approach that benefits all regions of the UK.”

Ms Eastwood has said: “It’s extremely concerning that the Financial Inclusion Committee does not appear to have included any representatives from Northern Ireland. While the terms of reference state the committee will take a UK-wide approach and work with devolved governments, without direct input from NI, it is difficult to see how this can be truly inclusive.

“I have submitted urgent questions to the Treasury to ask what consideration was given to including Northern Ireland’s voice on the committee. Organisations like the Money Charity, Fair4All Finance, and Citizens Advice are vital, but many have limited or no presence here, further highlighting the need for local representation.

“Northern Ireland’s financial landscape is unique, and it’s essential this is part of any conversation around our economic future. Decisions should be informed by those who understand the complexities of our local economy and excluding our region’s local voices risks undermining the committee’s goal of genuine financial inclusion.”
