The report focused on culture, oversight and accountability within the Trust after concerns were raised regarding dynamics within the Cardiac Unit.
Ms McAllister has said: “It’s extremely concerning to hear that significant risks remain as a result of relationships and working dynamics within the Belfast Trust Cardiac Unit.
“It’s clear that the current culture within the Trust means staff do not have confidence that their complaints will be heard and addressed appropriately. This is unacceptable, and serves as yet another example of why Northern Ireland urgently needs an overhaul in our policies around whistleblowing, alongside a statutory duty of candour.
“I want to thank those members of staff within the Trust who bravely came forward and gave their views, helping inform this report and enable these issues to be brought to light.
“I also want to welcome Jennifer Welsh to her new role as Chief Executive of the Trust and wish her luck in working urgently, alongside the Department of Health, to take action to ensure staff feel safe enough to raise their concerns.
“Ultimately, good working practices and patient safety go hand in hand. Openness, transparency, and respect within teams are crucial to make sure the best possible care is provided.”
