She was speaking at an event at City Hall today (24 June) hosted in the charity’s honour, attended by guests such as Fleur Anderson MP and Linda Ervine MBE.

Cllr McAteer has said: “Integrated education is an issue I care incredibly deeply about, and having worked at the IEF several years ago, as well as with Kellie Armstrong MLA as she brought forward the Integrated Education Act, I’ve seen first-hand the passion, dedication, resilience, and determination that goes into this movement.

Integrated education has the power to bring people together, fostering understanding and respect as we work to build the inclusive and united community everyone should aspire to. In light of recent events we’ve witnessed here in Belfast and across our region, this mission has never felt more urgent or important.

Today is a time to both celebrate how far we’ve come and the progress we’ve made, and reflect on how far we still have to go in expanding access to integrated education for all children and young people right across NI.

I’ll continue to stand alongside the IEF and those involved in that fight, and work to make this vision a reality.”
