Alliance MLA Paula Bradshaw has called for clarity over whether soft play businesses can reopen later this week.
The South Belfast MLA said owners of such businesses were currently confused by guidance from the Executive over the potential for reopening this Friday (August 7). On the NI Direct website’s relaxation of regulations and recovery plan section, it gives a date of August 7, however, it also still states ‘unconfirmed’ beside soft play businesses.
Ms Bradshaw said with only a matter of days left, clarification was needed now.
“Going by the website, soft play businesses will be allowed to open this Friday. But it also says unconfirmed. Obviously public health is the priority but businesses need clear direction with enough time to prepare for reopening.
“Clarity is needed now from the Executive Office for the sector. While business owners recognise that public health is of paramount importance, they also need certainty on whether they can open their doors this weekend.
“Many who have contacted me have already started taking bookings for parties and so want to be in the position to either confirm or cancel these. I urge the Executive Office to let them know now.”
