Ms Mulholland said: “This is a wonderful achievement both for Gracehill and for North Antrim. The history of the village is unique for this part of the world and I hope this international recognition will draw visitors from home and abroad to learn more about the Moravian settlement and the work that has been done to preserve and develop it.
“I want to pay tribute to Dr David Johnston, Chairman of the Gracehill Trust, and everyone involved in the effort to attain this remarkable recognition.”
Cllr Gibson added: “From living in the village I have seen first hand the incredible work the Gracehill Trust has engaged in over the years, with support from Mid and East Antrim Borough Council and other statutory agencies. It is a testament to the dedication and commitment of volunteers who worked to preserve such an important settlement. I am delighted their hard work has paid off with this wonderful recognition from UNESCO.”
