Alliance Deputy Lord Mayor Emmet McDonough Brown has called for Teachers to be awarded the Freedom of the City, in recognition of all they do to support, train and inspire Northern Ireland's next generation.
Calling for the accolade to be delivered at the earliest opportunity, Emmet added this was a positive issue he hoped all groups and parties could get behind.
He said: "Teachers contribute so much to our communities and our city, and it is right that we recognise them by giving them the freedom of Belfast at the earliest opportunity.
"Very often, they are under-rewarded, working in challenging circumstances, and teaching subjects which enrich and expand the horizons of their students.
"Belfast should honour these public servants and I hope other parties will join me in proclaiming the brilliant work of this city's teachers."
